Promeris
ProMeris and ProMeris Duo are topical spot-on applications for the prevention of tick and flea infestations on dogs and cats. Both products come in easy-to-apply pipettes. ProMeris Duo is based on a combination of Metaflumizone and Amitraz. However, as the latter is toxic to cats, ProMeris for cats contains only Metaflumizone. Because ProMeris for cats lacks Amitraz (which disrupts a tick's normal nerve function), this product does not claim to be effective as a tick control. However, some veterinarians consider Metaflumizone to be effective against ticks as well as fleas. Metaflumizone attacks the flea's nervous system by blocking neuronal sodium channels, which results in the paralysis and death of the flea.
Both Promeris Duo and ProMeris for cats can be used as part of a treatment strategy for flea-allergy dermatitis.
