Frontline Spray & Spot On

Frontline products are for use on dogs and cats and are not recommended for the treatment of other species because adverse reactions and even death may occur.

The active ingredient of Frontline is "Fipronil", which is a member of the phenylpyrazole family of broad-spectrum, non-systemic insecticides / acaricides. These act by blocking the GABA receptors to kill the target parasite on contact. Frontline is effective against ticks, fleas, and lice on dogs and cats. It comes in a "Spray" or "Spot On" form.

Frontline does not prevent all ticks from attaching, but ticks will be killed within the first 24-48 hours. Any attached ticks should be removed as soon as they are discovered.

Frontline Spray

As well as treatment for ticks and fleas, Frontline Spray may aid the control of other ectoparasites including Neotrombicula autumnalis, Sarcoptes spp. and Cheyletiella spp. Treatment has also been shown to reduce the incidence of flea-allergy dermatitis.

Frontline Spray is effective against tick infestations for up to 1 month in dogs. Monthly treatment in cats is safe but the effectiveness tends to diminish after 2 weeks. The spray is active against fleas for up to 3 months in dogs and up to 2 months in cats. The effectiveness depends on the number of ticks and fleas, and the environmental conditions. Frontline Spray is not suitable for direct treatment of the environment. Puppies and kittens from 2 days old may be safely treated.
