Advantix Spot On

Advantix Spot On is for the treatment of tick and flea infestations on dogs only. This product contains Permethrin which is extremely harmful to cats. Where cats are likely to have close contact with treated dogs, it is best to choose an alternative product that does not contain Permethrin.

The active ingredients in Advantix are "Permethrin" and "Imidacloprid". Permethrin belongs to the type I class of pyrethroid acaricides / insecticides. It blocks neuronal sodium channels of insects, which results in paralysis and death of the parasite. Permethrin also acts as a repellent. Imidacloprid is an ectoparasiticide belonging to the chloronicotinyl group of compounds. It also fatally affects the central nervous system in insects.

Advantix Spot On comes in an easy-to-apply pipette and is available in four sizes to suit dogs and puppies of different body weights (up to 4kg, 4-10kg, 10-25kg and 25kg and over). The product is safe for puppies over 7 weeks of age that meet the minimum body weight for each weight category (the lowest being a minimum of 1.5kg for dogs up to 4kg). Advantix may be used during pregnancy and lactation.

The product:

  • Repels ticks, fleas, sand flies and mosquitoes. However, single bites may occasionally occur and consequently disease transmission cannot be completely excluded.
  • Is effective against both adult and larval fleas and can help prevent flea-allergy dermatitis.
  • Kills and repels ticks effectively for 3-4 weeks, depending on the species of tick encountered. Any attached ticks at the time of treatment will usually die within 48 hours. However, they should be removed as soon as they are discovered.
  • Kills fleas within 24 hours following treatment. One application prevents further flea infestation for 4 weeks.
  • Repels sand flies for 2-3 weeks and mosquitoes for 2-4 weeks, depending on the species encountered.
  • Repels stable flies for 4 weeks.

The active ingredients of Advantix are dangerous to aquatic organisms. Do not allow treated dogs to enter water for at least 48 hours after treatment.
