Ray Mears , Patron of BADA-UK

Ray Mears grew up in Southern England on the North Downs, where he developed a deep interest in, and affinity with, the countryside. This would later develop into his life's mission.

Ray is perhaps the foremost expert in the field of Bushcraft and survival. He founded Woodlore, School of Wilderness Bushcraft, in 1983 and has spent over 25 years teaching, in his words, "to enable others to drink from the well of Bushcraft". His knowledge and love of the subject has not only allowed him to teach civilian students, but also military.

Since the early nineteen nineties, Ray has become world renowned as a Bushcraft and survival expert, and a household name through his TV series and books. His down-to-earth approach appeals to people of all ages, from children to senior citizens.

Ray's experience of nature has also resulted in him becoming very aware of ticks and the infections they can carry. "I feel that there is not enough awareness of Lyme disease in this country, given the fact that in rare cases it may become chronic", he says. And who should know better than Ray himself after he became a victim of Lyme disease. He completely understands the importance of preventative measures and it is because of his own experience with the illness that he supports BADA-UK's efforts and has kindly become patron.
