Raising awareness
Raising awareness is one of the key ways in which the incidence of tick-borne disease can be lowered. Understanding where ticks might be, how to prevent them from attaching, and how to remove them safely, can all help to lower the risk of contracting a tick-borne infection.
There are lots of ways in which you can raise awareness:
Displaying our Car Sticker
One of the easiest ways in which you can raise awareness is to purchase our "Ticks Make You Sick" car sticker. Every time you park your car, someone has the opportunity to see it. One small action can help us in a big way!
Distributing Leaflets
You can download and print our range of leaflets and posters to give to people you know who you feel would benefit from this information. You could also drop a leaflet into your local chemist, health centre, health store, or veterinary surgery.
If you don't have the facilities to print your own leaflets, you can obtain hard copies from our PO Box address. When we receive a request for leaflets from people who do not have the Internet, we do not charge. However, as we are a self-funded charity, distributing literature free-of-charge does put a considerable strain on our limited finances. Because of this, we are sadly unable to offer large quantities of leaflets without a donation being made to help us cover the cost of publishing and postage.
Getting Clubs and Associations Involved
If you, or your children, belong to a club or association that focuses on outdoor activities (such the Guides / Scouts, or fishing, birding, walking, or field-sports organisations), perhaps you can approach the organisers and ask if they would be willing to highlight this important issue. If your club or association has a newsletter, perhaps they would consider publishing some information about defending against tick attachment and about correct tick removal.
Informing Schools
If you have children and they take part in outdoor activities at school (such as cross-country running or nature trails), perhaps you could take some information to your child's teacher.
Web Links
If you have a website that focuses on outdoor activities, pets, or health, or if you simply wish to support our charity, perhaps you would consider providing a web link to the BADA-UK website, so that your visitors can also access our comprehensive information. If you would like an image file of our logo, please contact us.
If you are a member of a discussion forum, and forum rules permit it, perhaps you could add our website URL to your profile or signature.
If you would like to support BADA-UK and raise awareness, you could also add our website URL to your email signature.
